Movers and Shapers: A Dance Podcast
PODCAST No.101 – Alejandra Duque Cifuentes
Published July 2020
About:
"Movers and Shapers: A Dance Podcast" brings to you personal stories, experiences, and ideas from the people who "shape" the dance field. Hosted by Erin Carlisle Norton, Artistic Director of the NJ/NYC-based all-female dance company The Moving Architects. New episodes available every other Monday.
Episode Description:
Back when ADC Consulting's Alejandra Duque Cifuentes was the executive director of service organization, Dance/NYC, Alejandra appeared on the Movers and Shapers dance podcast to discuss her personal artistic background, her move to the USA, and how she entered the work of performance and cultural advocacy. From her early days as a church performer and playwright, to her voyage into stage management and theater arts, to her learning to produce events and write her first memo in the non-profit sector - Alejandra carried the value of "nothing without us" (coined by disability justice activists) into the rest of her career as a cultural worker. By centering the need to have the people who are closest to the impact of the work lead the work, she arrived at her ultimate calling in arts advocacy.
